Part A: the maximum rate per child (plus the supplement if family income is $80,000 or less) is reduced by 20% of income over $69,131 and 30% of income over $123,078, but not below the base rate; the base rate is reduced by 30% of income over $123,078. The higher result is paid. Part B: the standard rate for your youngest child's age plus the $478.15 supplement, reduced for couples by 20% of the second earner's income over $7,154, and nil if the main earner has more than $124,327. Rates and thresholds from the DSS Family Assistance Guide, checked 25 September 2026.
Not included: Rent Assistance, the maintenance income test for child support, shared care, the newborn supplement, multiple birth allowance and the grandfathered energy supplement. If you or your partner get an income support payment, you get the maximum rate of Part A. The fortnightly figure is an estimate — Services Australia pays on your income estimate and balances it after the year ends.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How much Family Tax Benefit will I get?
It depends on your family's adjusted taxable income and your children's ages. Maximum Part A is $6,139 a year per child under 13 and $7,990 per child aged 13-19 in secondary school, plus the $970.90 supplement.
A single parent on $50,000 with a 3-year-old gets about $12,812 a year in Part A and Part B combined, including supplements.
What is the income limit for Family Tax Benefit?
There is no single cut-off for Part A: it tapers from $69,131 (20c in the dollar) and again from $123,078 (30c), so the limit rises with the number and ages of your children. Part B stops once the main earner's income is above $124,327.
The Part A supplement is only paid if family income is $80,000 or less.
What counts as income for FTB?
Adjusted taxable income (ATI): taxable income plus reportable fringe benefits, reportable super contributions (such as salary sacrifice), total net investment losses, tax-free pensions or benefits and target foreign income, minus child support you pay. For couples, Part A uses both partners' ATI combined.
When are the FTB supplements paid?
After the end of the financial year, once FTB is balanced against your actual income — so you must lodge a tax return (or tell Services Australia you don't need to). The supplements can be used to repay an FTB or Child Care Subsidy debt.
Can I get Rent Assistance with FTB?
Yes — if you rent privately and get more than the base rate of FTB Part A, Rent Assistance can be added to your Part A. Use the Rent Assistance calculator for the amount.
