NIT fees are similar. Private engineering colleges charge ₹3-8 lakh/year currently.
It depends on the target amount and time horizon. For a ₹50 lakh corpus in 15 years at 12% returns, you'd need roughly ₹10,000-12,000/month via SIP.
The earlier you start, the less you need monthly — compounding does the heavy lifting.
For long-term (10+ years): Equity mutual funds via SIP (ELSS for tax benefit + diversified equity for growth). For medium-term (5-10 years): Balanced advantage funds or hybrid funds.
For short-term (3-5 years): Debt mutual funds or FDs. Avoid insurance-linked education plans — returns are typically poor.
Studying abroad (US, UK, Australia, Canada) typically costs ₹30-80 lakh for a master's degree including living expenses. Plan for this with USD/GBP-indexed investments if possible.
Factor in exchange rate risk — INR has depreciated ~3-4% annually against major currencies historically.
